[SOLVED] Spacemacs powerline characters render as boxes

Hi there,

I installed spacemacs but some characters render incorrectly as shown in this image:

spacemacs

I installed adobe-source-code-pro-fonts as optionally recommended in the wiki. I also installed powerline-fonts but it did not make any difference.

I also tried setting the spacemacs font (in ~/.spacemacs) to DejaVu Sans Mono and FreeMono (the respective fonts packages are installed) in case there was a lack of unicode support but it did not help.

I am running GNOME. I do not have a ~/.Xresources file, but xrdb -q -all shows the following:

Xft.dpi:	96
Xft.antialias:	1
Xft.hinting:	1
Xft.hintstyle:	hintslight
Xft.rgba:	none
Xcursor.size:	24
Xcursor.theme:	Adwaita

My locale settings are as follows:

$ locale
LANG=en_AU.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC=en_AU.UTF-8
LC_TIME=en_AU.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY=en_AU.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER=en_AU.UTF-8
LC_NAME="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT=en_AU.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_AU.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
$ locale -a
C
en_AU.utf8
en_US.utf8
POSIX

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Spacemacs powerline characters render as boxes

I fixed it by installing bdf-unifont. It still works after removing powerline-fonts.
