VLC on External Display Freezes

Hey all,

I am using arch, xorg, with budgie desktop. When I load videos on an external display with VLC it freezes mostly at the beginning, sometimes not very much, sometimes too much to watch the video. The video keeps playing, the audio does not skip, but the video stalls and sometimes recovers.

Does anyone know what I should look at to try to fix this?

Is there any information that I can provide that would be helpful?

Thank you

EDIT:
It is really bad in fullscreen, but okay when not in fullscreen.

Re: VLC on External Display Freezes

Check terminal output for errors, in general this might be an issue with the hardware decoding/output method used, try to either switch off hardware decoding and/or explicitly using some "stable" video out method like OpenGL. Is this a hybrid graphics system?
