[SOLVED] gnucash stopped working after today's updates

After I had updated all that was thrown at me, gnucash stopped working. First I received:

gnucash: error while loading shared libraries: libicui18n.so.60: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So I linked libicui18n.so.61 to libicui18n.so.60. Next I received:

gnucash: error while loading shared libraries: libicuuc.so.60: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So I linked libicuuc.so.61 to libicuuc.so.60. Now I received the following error

gnucash: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libjavascriptcoregtk-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: ucol_setAttribute_60

I do not know how to overcome this. Should I wait till gnucash sends the updated build or is there any solution?

gnucash, and it's webkit dep, are in the AUR. You are responsible for rebuilding AUR packages when they need to be.

Don't make stupid symlinks.

Amazing. Everything you just did, was wrong.

Remove the symlinks you created and rebuild your foreign packages.

Mod note: moving to AUR issues.

Thanks for pointing me to the right direction.

Tried recompiling. The file libgncmod-html.so depends on libicuuc.so.60, whereas current arch contains ver 61. Now, this file libgncmod-html.so is generated as part of gnucash build, I do not understand how the specific version dependency is coming in here.

Add --log  to makepkg commandline, paste the logs somewhere and tell us where to find them.
Maybe we can help figuring out why gnucash uses the wrong version.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Thanks. I posted the problem on gnucash forum as well, and someone replied that I had to reinstall webkitgtk. I did so. But in the meanwhile gnucash 3.0 got released yesterday, and with that the dependence on webkitgtk is gone. So I do not have the problem anymore.

Yes, thanks for that. My mistake. I was confused as to which webkit to install. And also was not sure whether the webkit will build as part of gnucash build itself. I should have asked for more clarification.

I am still new on linux and package management!

Congratulations! On both resolving the issue, and for surviving the occasional snarky bluntness of the Arch Linux forums. wink

You can "Edit" your first post and add "SOLVED" to the title. smile

:-) Thanks!

Forum for a straightforward distro like Arch will undoubtedly have occasional bluntness. That's okay. What I like is the promptness of the people who replied and took interest in a newbie's predicament.
