[SOLVED] What does the colon (:) in some packages version number mean?

Example: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … 64/docker/
As of this writing docker has version number: 1:18.03.0-1

At Wikipedia I can see that the real version number is just: 18.03.0

What does the 1 before the colon stand for?

My google-fu failed completely when I tried to search for an answer myself.

Re: [SOLVED] What does the colon (:) in some packages version number mean?

Some time ago someone in the Arch IRC chanel said that this is for the parsing purposes. If I recall correctly.

So the number before the colon is called "epoch" and is used to force version sort order of a package.

Thank you.
