[SOLVED] MATLAB complaining about X11GLXDrawableFactory

I just installed MATLAB R2018a and I get the following error above the prompt at the top of the command window when I start the program:

com.jogamp.opengl.GLException: X11GLXDrawableFactory - Could not initialize shared resources for X11GraphicsDevice[type .x11, connection :0, unitID 0, handle 0x0, owner false, ResourceToolkitLock[obj 0x37e10dfd, isOwner false, <4dd74231, 25b2e611>[count 0, qsz 0, owner <NULL>]]]

	at jogamp.opengl.x11.glx.X11GLXDrawableFactory$SharedResourceImplementation.createSharedResource(X11GLXDrawableFactory.java:297)

This is apparently some kind of graphics problem, so I tried making a plot (the plot window opens and displays nothing):

>> plot([1, 2, 3, 4], [1, 2, 3, 4])
MATLAB has experienced a low-level graphics error, and may not have drawn correctly.

Re: [SOLVED] MATLAB complaining about X11GLXDrawableFactory

Is that in the situation w/o an X11 server?
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=235987

The code want's to use GLX, it won't work on a linux console w/o an X11 display server...

That didn't mean wrap your entire post (including existing code tags and your non-code commentary) in one giant code tag.  Try again.

This is not the first thread you've been told mutliple times to use proper code tags either:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 1#p1778211
edit: I see the other thread was actually at the same time as this one.  Just the same, fix your post in this thread.  You only changed the initial and final quote tags to code which really butchered the whole post.

Are you running pure X, or is this a wayland session?

The post has been fixed.  Thanks for the heads up.  Sorry about the sloppy editing.  I was trying to do it on my phone, since nvidia-340xx (which I installed per matlab's documentation on low level graphics errors) hosed my system.  Thanks for your patience!

Re: [SOLVED] MATLAB complaining about X11GLXDrawableFactory

Thanks for the helpful advice posted above.  The issue was solved by starting matlab with software rendering.  Here is the command:

>matlab -softwareopengl
