Audio jack on laptop silent since recent upgrade

Since about one week, the audio jack on my laptop (Dell XPS15), has stopped working.

It's clearly turned on when checking "alsamixer -c0". My system has pulseaudio + pulseaudio-alsa packages, and it worked before last week.

I downgraded the kernel to one from march, that I know definitely worked, and rebooted, hoping that would fix it, but still no sound.

The speakers on the laptop works, just not the audio jack.

Any suggestions or hints are greatly appreciated.

Your dmesg output shows it's recognizing a Headset and Headphone microphone, is that the same device plugged into the audio jack? If so, the jack itself seems to be fine.

If you have audio playing on the speakers and then plug into the jack, does the sound disappear entirely, or does it keep playing on the built-in speakers?

Yes, speakers turn off entierly when I plugg in the headphones. If I have alsamixer open when I pluggin them in, I see the expected behavour of main speakers being muted. When I pull them out headphone channel is muted.

I've tried unmuting various channels, but to no effect.

I should mention they're wireless/bluetooth, but I've never configured that, so I've always used normal 3.5 mm cable.

Can you add the output of

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs

? Also if it has "suddenly" stopped working, try to rule out a kernel regression by testing e.g. linux-lts

Hey, installing linux-lte did the trick! It works now, thanks!

Now, the question is, will I be without working audio-jack when linux-lte is upgraded, and why did it stop working on recent linux kernels?
