Desktop Freezes Occasionally (KDE Plasma 5)
When hitting the super button to bring up the application dropdown menu, it will freeze after typing in a few characters into the seach bar. It only happens occasionally and I have not found a way to cause it with 100% certainty. Last time it happened I tried restarting the DE but it froze, so now to fix this I usually just have to reboot the machine however this becomes very annoying as it happens at least once per day.
Also I aplogize for the lack of information, as I have no idea where to even begin in troubleshooting this.

Does this (the initial freeze) only affect the launcher or the entire desktop? (Esp. other "real" windows - the panels etc. will likely freeze as well)
Does it happen w/ suspended compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12)?
Can you switch to VT1 (when this happens) or ssh into the machine? (Does it still echo to pings)?

it doesn't affect anything other than the launcher and panels (and I am unable to switch to a different activity as well). I am able to switch to a different VT, I did this when I initially tried to restart the desktop.

Check whether some process charges the cpu (plasmashell or baloo? kactivitymanager?)
I'd also suggest to keep a konsole open to check and kill the offending process from there (to avoid running into follow-up issues w/ your framebuffer or whatever causes the secondary freeze)
