Thinkpad X1 gen 3 with Gnome doesn't detect external HDMI display

Hi,

I tried to connect an external HDMI display to my Thinkpad, but Gnome display settings show only the internal display. Plugging and unplugging the cable doesn't change anything, dmesg stays silent.

Here are the outputs:

Searching for reports of similar problems I found that changing the "boot display" to HDMI in BIOS could help (for whatever reason), but it actually doesn't change anything.
