[SOLVED] xrandr shows a none existing VGA output

Hi,

xrandr shows me two VGA outputs: VGA-1 and VGA-1-2. VGA-1 is an existing output whereas VGA-1-2 is not. VGA-1-2 as always a max resolution of 1024x768. My problem is now, that this none existing output gets detected by herbstluftwm (auto_detect_monitors is set to 1) as the second monitor and it creates a virtual one with the detected resolution of 1024x768. This is obviously not what I want, since the true resolution is 1680x1050 (for my currently connected monitor on VGA-1).

I have actually two graphic cards in my machine:

  • GeForce GT 540M

  • Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

I'm using the xf86-video-nouveau driver with version 1.0.15-2

Has anyone encounter that problem before and know how to fix it?

If anyone is interested, this is the output of lspci:

Re: [SOLVED] xrandr shows a none existing VGA output

Have a look at the wiki, under nouveau there's a section about phantom outputs.

Re: [SOLVED] xrandr shows a none existing VGA output

Hey radiomike, thanks for the hint. I disabled VGA-1-2 and now everything is working as intended.
