[SOLVED] Favorites menu on KDE disappearing

Hey everyone,

After the last update to Plasma/KDE my Favorites and Recent Applications in the Dashboard simply disappeared.
I've refilled the two menu options and after logging out/in the items disappear again.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I have:
KDE Plasma 5.12.5
KDE Frameworks 5.45.0
Qt version 5.10.1
Kernel 4.16.6-1

When did you update and what exactly what packages were updated?

With "dashboard", assuming you mean the Application Launcher, this is working fine for me. Can you try creating a new user and see if the problem is still there with a new user and therefore all default settings? If not, it's probably a specific setting or add-on that's causing this.

Hi twelveeighty,

I've been updating regularly my system and I'm using the application dashboard instead of the Launcher.
I created a new user as you suggested and it looks like it is working fine and the favorites do not disappear.
Something strange is happening because my desktop has exactly the same issue.

Do you know how can I reset Plasma layout without breaking my system? Probably it's preserving some old config files and that is causing this problem.

Look through your journal, an often occuring recent candidate is kactivitymanager crashing due to database corruption (potentially triggered by unclean shutdowns or the like) see:  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=235678 as well

Thank you V1del,

I found several errors from kwin_x11 regarding and XCB error 3, plasmashell complaining about plasmoids but renaming/deleting the .local/share/kactivitymanagerd  directory and rebooting did the trick for me.

Even though I've been trying to do some testing and sometimes it crashes with a black screen with just the mouse pointer visible when I switch the desktop from "Folder" to "Desktop" view or viceversa.

Anyway I will mark it as SOLVED because the main problem is gone.
