Lots of hard drive space lost after OpenOffice install

I installed openoffice-base yesterday when I had 1 GB of free space, which got me down to 200 MB of free space. I opened the file I needed with it, then I removed it with "pacman -Rc openoffice-base". When it finished, I only had 500 MB of free space left. Why could this be? Did OO take the 800 MB, or did I just have something going in the background using up space when I didn't realize it?

pacman -Scc (IIRC) will clear all those downloaded packages in the cache.

Re: Lots of hard drive space lost after OpenOffice install

I have been clearing /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ manually after I install things because I have been hovering near 200 MB free on this disk for a while.

In addition, I checked pacman.log and openoffice-base did not install any dependencies when I added it, and thus didn't remove any when I uninstalled. (grepping the logs shows that this is the only time that I have installed openoffice, too.)
