Xorg flickrs since last update
Hi
I have a Nvidia GeForce 640 GT. Since last arch update, I got blackening flicks while running programs, from what I could detect, using 3D stuff.
I detected it first in Chromium, in certain web pages (gmail for instance). The blackening isn't permanent, but seems random, and sometimes I briefly see glitch (multicolor) lines in between.
I searches the forums and didn't find anything, just some with Xorg not starting, etc..
I checked and my card didn't went to the legacy drivers list. I have updated my initrd.
Now I am using Firefox, which suffers the same issue: archlinux bbs does not cause any problem, but as soon as I open gmail, I get those fullscreen flicks.

You could try the 390xx drivers nevertheless, there've been several reports for issues w/ the 396 driver.
The next question would be for the desktop environment, notably the compositor (if) and whether it happens w/o the latter as well.

Already done, I got the exact same, and reverted back to the normal drivers then

I don't run a desktop environment, just openbox. I used to use compton for having some compositing effects, but not anymore.
Are there other logs / config to check?

Flickering can stem from many things, the dotclock is off or can not keep up the speed (eg. for undervoltage)
However first try /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf

I read the thread mentionned in the comment and was confident with the result. Unfortunately, it seems the options didn't change anything

Other programs using 3D seem to generate the same problem: I just tried blender, and got many flicks when running it (just opening and closing the splash). As soon as I stopped it, flickr stopped too.

That would rather tend to be a hardware issue (so if there's perfect coincidence w/ some update, its unlikely the reason)

Important messages from the nvidia blob show up along "NVRM".
The bare metal inspection tool is "nvidia-smi" (Try "nvidia-smi -q")
You can limit the power draw etc. in case this is related.
What packages exactly did you update before this started (and from which version)?
