I have found this set of developer emails:
http://www.abisource.com/mailinglists/a … /0368.html
This seems to highlight the probable area of difficulty with the gnome dependencies.
PS I have installed with the testing cd. the trick I find: is to create the grub files in /boot by doing a local grub-install. But to do the active grub-install from an arch 32 partition on the same disk. (I have an asus mother board and sata drive, and hd0 and hd3 get cheerfully swapped around by the bios).

I have been able to resolve the issues as follows.
I downloaded gucharmap-1.4.0. from
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/ … .0.tar.bz2
and configured with --prefix=/usr
Abiword now starts up for me. Do we need this as a dependency?

Ehm. What issues?

On my machine, abiword ordinarily fails to start up, because it reports difficulty with a missing ligubcharmap file.
So there will be some reason why the build is deficient. For me, this was so with the build from the earlier iso, too.
I use kde and therefore do not have the complete gnome-based libraries.
Has no-one else experienced the difficulty? I displayed the email correspondence between abiword developers, because it seems there is a known vulnerability.
Thanks
Geoff

You're right: ldd shows
libgucharmap.so.4 => /opt/gnome/lib/libgucharmap.so.4 (0x00002abca9e29000)
I'll get into it. Anyway we have flyspray now open for x86_64. You can use it next time if you want.

Got it
There's a configure switch --disable-gucharmap I will add.

Thanks, AndyRTR.
I am using arch64 all the time, now. Nice build!
There seems to be an issue for me with the pkg's database for "extra". I am having to install some pkg's manually. Could it be that not all repo "extra" databases are up to date?
I use belnet.
Thanks

We copied all packages from arch64.org to archlinux. But before the packages appear in the repo db we/I have to bring them into archlinux.org's cvs and tag them. A few from extra are still missing. If you see packages on the ftp but not in the repo db feel free to send me a list so I can add them.
What is already done you can see any time: http://www.archlinux.org/~andyrtr/pkg_diff.html ;-)
Fixed abiword uploaded.

Thanks again. These are the untagged ones I came across.
gtk2-perl-1.122-2.pkg.tar.gz
jpilot-0.99.8-2.pkg.tar.gz
openoffice-base-2.0.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
stardict-2.4.6-1.pkg.tar.gz
xmahjongg-3.7-2.pkg.tar.gz
xsane-0.991-1.pkg.tar.gz
zim-0.15-1.pkg.tar.gz
psiconv-0.9.8-1.pkg.tar.gz
link-grammar-4.1.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
gtkmathview-0.7.5-1.pkg.tar.gz
abiword-plugins-2.4.3-1.pkg.tar.gz
My guess would be these represent a sizeable proportion.
Thanks
Geoff
