I am trying to set up a system booted in bios with an mbr partition scheme. When I reboot after installing and configuring my system I return to the arch boot menu instead of grub. If I select boot existing os the text "Booting... ISOLINUX 6.03 6.03" is displayed. Then I am returned to the arch boot menu.

Did you set the disk as bootable during your cfdisk stage? cfdisk allows you to set a drive as bootable in the user interface. Also, is the partition you named 'Boot' supposed to be 'root'? BIOS/MBR doesn't have a boot partition iirc. Just
the initial bootloader sector and then the normal partitions follow.

Are you sure this is a BIOS system (ie. for newer systems "you're driving UEFI in BIOS emulation")?

This solved my issue. Thanks!
