xorg-server 1.20 + Intel modesetting - Black screen on xrandr rotation

On my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga since upgrading to xorg-server 1.20.0-2, when I set rotation different from normal on a screen (internal or external), the screen turns black and only the cursor is visible.
When I take a screenshot with scrot, the proper content is in the screenshot, and when I reset the rotation to normal, it turns back to normal.

This issue is not present when I downgrade to xorg-server 1.19.6+13+gd0d1a694f-2. I'm running Intel Integrated Graphics on the modesetting driver.

Re: xorg-server 1.20 + Intel modesetting - Black screen on xrandr rotation

Welcome to the arch linux forums m-tee.  Is the issue still present with xorg-server 1.20.0-5 from testing?

Re: xorg-server 1.20 + Intel modesetting - Black screen on xrandr rotation

I experience the same issue, though with an entirely different laptop, but same versions of xorg-server.
I both downgraded, and verified that it worked, as well as tried testing (-5) and the link per your request to m-tee, loqs.

Re: xorg-server 1.20 + Intel modesetting - Black screen on xrandr rotation

Same here. I don't use much the tablet mode of my HP Spectre so I was surprised when I found out it was no longer working. Hopefully I found this post and downgrading to xorg-server 1.19.  I will keep it blacklisted until the issue gets resolved.
Thanks again for this post.

Re: xorg-server 1.20 + Intel modesetting - Black screen on xrandr rotation

The first commit where rotation breaks at all is

9817c14f6a2ea5db44459659131c13f403716df1 is the first bad commit
commit 9817c14f6a2ea5db44459659131c13f403716df1
Author: Louis-Francis Ratté-Boulianne <lfrb@collabora.com>
Date: Wed Feb 28 01:19:39 2018 +0000
modesetting: Use atomic modesetting to configure output/CRTCs
To make sure we also use the same primary plane and to avoid
mixing uses of two APIs, it is better to always use the atomic
    modesetting API when possible.
    v2: Don't use mode_output->connector_id
