i have a better solution, using pacman -Si to get the package size. of course, this is the compressed size, not the installed size.
Current = 510MB (the whole thing has to fit on the base cd, so it's not humongous)
Extra = 2.98GB

Thats not bad at all, 3.5 gigs, and that dosen't include the AUR, Just as a comparison:
Arch=3.5 Gig
Debian Testing=~11.3 Gig
SuSE=~3.6 Gig
Fedora Core=~3 Gig
