You are starting to mix issues that aren't relevant to each other. The original issue was due to a wrongly placed symlink, if you have issues that don't have anything to do with symlinks of the cache directory you have a different issue.

And either way, there won't be a warning, as someone that uses pacman as intended will not have an issue, if you had to reinstall because you've done the complete update using a broken AUR manager that's your fault and your issue to handle.

To prevent a wave of people that broke their pacman by updating with unsupported methods from flooding this thread, I'm going to close this here.
