Hijacking this a bit since I have the exact same problem: https://gist.github.com/Jonher937/ca7a7 … ecf7d3825a

the xrandr -q outputs are as expected.
The xorg logs share 2 things i find weird :
- both have exactly one line that has to do with the second card
[ 14.749] (--) PCI: (1@0:0:0) 10de:1c8d:1028:07be rev 161, Mem @ 0xec000000/16777216, 0xc0000000/268435456, 0xd0000000/33554432, I/O @ 0x0000e000/128, BIOS @ 0x????????/524288
-
both logs show you have an xorg.conf-file that is being used.
[ 14.084] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
[ 14.759] (II) Applying OutputClass "intel" to /dev/dri/card0
It's very likely that file has to do with the issue, post its content.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Hi, thanks for reviewing the logs, I couldn't really find anything I thought was strange.
In my case I have a Dell XPS and it has a dedicated graphics card as well as the integrated one.
➜ ~ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
# config
➜ ~ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*
# Written by systemd-localed(8), read by systemd-localed and Xorg. It's
# probably wise not to edit this file manually. Use localectl(1) to
# instruct systemd-localed to update it.

If that's all content, just remove that file.
Still no sign of a file that could result in the intel outputclass message, let's check more locations.

I'm running bumblebee to switch between discrete graphics and using the graphics card: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … tch_method
I'll try and downgrade some packages today to see if I can trace it back to a package since I think it's one of these packages:

10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf seems to be provided by the "extra/nvidia-utils" package.
Thanks.

10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf seems to be provided by the "extra/nvidia-utils" package.
It's meant for a hybrid graphics setup where both intel and nvidia card are active, with the nvidia card as primary one.
If the nvidia card is disabled you basically have an intel-only setup.
How the setup is when you enable the nvidia card depends on how bumblebee is setup.
(the bumblebeed.service does much more then just making switching off the card possible.)
Your best option is probably to remove bumblebee and use bbswitch directly to change the state of the nivdia card.

I have the same issue on my optimus laptop. Would be great if we could find a solution! In the meantime, downgrading xorg-server from 1.20 to 1.19 and its dependencies seems to restore things to normal.

Although it looked like lmat and jonher937 had the same issue, it's now clear there are big hardware / software differences.
We have 2 people with an optimus system using nvidia proprietary drivers, and the OP has an intel/amd system using only oss drivers.
I'm going to ask mods to split this thread .
all posters : please post lspci -nnk output.

Has the update to xorg-server 1.20.0-5 improved the situation ?
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Sadly it's the same problem as with 1.20.0-2
Offline
I'll give 1.20.0-6 a try on Monday and see if that helps

Sorry to say it's still the same problem with xorg-server 1.20.0-6 (common on devel on same version).
UPDATE: Tested with 1.20.0-7 and the issue persists.

Thanks, Jonher937 for keeping an eye on this! I would appreciate continued updates. I downgraded and am not experiencing issues. I used gnome and it works, but gnome requires more than 1 GB of memory which I can't afford to give it.

Tested 1.20.0-8 and same problem there
What info can we add to help troubleshooting?

List the WM/DE you use and the way you start X (display manager, startx , xinit) .
Try alternatives for those choices so we can verify whether they influence the problem.

Tried i3 and GNOME
Tried startx without LightDM and xinit with LightDM
Same issue still sadly.
Haven't had time to try 1.20.0-9 yet

Same issue with 1.20.0-9

If anyone still following this thread I can confirm that xorg-server 1.20.1-1 works for me with the Dell XPS dock.
Running linux 4.18.3.arch1-1
Thanks @Lone_Wolf for taking the time to help troubleshoot
