{SOLVED} openbox and gnome automatic application magic

Ive been using transmission-gtk with openbox but when I open a media file in transmission it opens in easytag, I would instead like a my media player to open it. I know transmission-gtk uses gnomes default application list but I can't find where it is or how it works, probably because it doesn't exist on my system.

Gnome uses GIO for opening files. See

man gio

Specifically the 'open' and 'mime' commands.
