Does it work if you downgrade to qt5-webengine 5.11.0-2?

With the downgrade to the 5.11.0-2 qt5-webengine works perfectly. However, I will not close the topic, since it is not the current version. All right?

Re: Falkon 3.0.1 crashing at startup after upgrading to kde 5.13

I found a similar error (at https://github.com/ColinDuquesnoy/Mello … ssues/252), the indications point to the nouveau drive. However, it also has some relation with qt5-webengine 5.11.0-3, since the downgrade solved the problem.

Re: Falkon 3.0.1 crashing at startup after upgrading to kde 5.13

The problem was in the OpenGL acceleration of the qt5-webengine that does not work well under the nouveau drive. The workaround is to run the QT_XCB_FORCE_SOFTWARE_OPENGL = 1 workaround until qt5-webengine's OpenGL is disabled by the maintainer. Or commit the sin of installing the nvidia owner drive.

Or try the modesetting driver (removal of xf86-vide-nouveau should be enough to make X use modesttting )

Re: Falkon 3.0.1 crashing at startup after upgrading to kde 5.13

This is an issue with the GL driver, so I doubt changing the DDX driver will do much.

Re: Falkon 3.0.1 crashing at startup after upgrading to kde 5.13

I may be wrong, but I think the nouveau has problems with OpenGL when it comes to multiprocessing. I may be wrong, but I think the nouveau has problems with OpenGL when it comes to multiprocessing. The point is that Upstream is supposed to have code to disable opengl for nouveau but it's obviously not working (qtwebengine + opengl + nouveau). Already with the owner drive this error does not occur.

In driver modesetting lose acceleration?

The error messages in this topic and the linked github issue both mention problems with pushbuf and appear to come from the nouveau driver.
I haven't found similar reports from users with intel, amd or modesetting drivers, trying modesetting driver seems a logical next step for troubleshooting.

nubiocicarini wrote:

2D may be slower, but 3D is accelerated with the modesetting driver.
Whether modesetting performs better or worse then DDX depends on a lot of factors and is unpredictable.

I notified the bug: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/59057#comment170555

Antonio Rojas (arojas), from the arch community, referred to the Qt: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-41242

What? No, I didn't, in fact that Qt bug report is about Wayland and has nothing to do with your issue. The relevant Qt report is https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-41242 which they claim is fixed.

actually, the opengl of the nvidia owner driver also does not work on qt-webengine. I got errors when activating firefox acceleration. However, with the owner drive the function is disabled by default, not returning error as it does with nouveau.

That bug report does make sense and put the blame in the mesa nouveau driver, not the X DDX as I thought.
@nubiocicarini : switching to x modesetting should have  no influence on this problem.

I've checked the tarball used by  the qt5-webengine 5.11.1-1 package and it does include this fix* in
src/3rdparty/chromium/gpu/config/software_rendering_list.json

nubiocicarini, can you verify if latest qt5-webengine solves this when running nouveau ?

*
Disabling all HW acceleration is not what I would call a fix,it feels more like the lesser of two evils

I just did the test (nouveau + falkon) and it did not work. The fix should refer to chromiun.

The blacklist is clearly not working, so someone affected should ask for the upstream bug to be reopened. I don't have a NVIDIA card myself so can't test.

I've enforced the upstream error notification. However, I'm just a freak without technical background and do not know how to do things like, for example, ask to reopen the bug.

It had closed, therefore I decided to install the proprietary drive to get around the problem. I'm running out of time to do more testing. I am a social scientist and I do not have much computer knowledge. It takes me a lot of reading to understand these things. But I reopened the topic for you.
