Hello everybody,
after the last upgrade of pulseaudio [11.11 -> 12.0] I ended up with an unusable volume mixer (xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin 0.4.1-1) under XFCE 4.12.
I had configured a virtual output device in paprefs (Tab "Simultaneous Output") to get a centralized volume management with xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin in the XFCE panel.
After the upgrade of PA the mixer bar of the Simultaneous Output in PA's volume mixer is vanished.
Because xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin uses this sink to control the volume, it is completely useless if the Simultaneous Output doesn't exist.
I could get it back after downgrading
pulseaudio -> 11.1-1
libpulse -> 11.1-1
paprefs -> 0.9.10-7
and reinstalling pulseaudio-gconf 11.1-1.
Is this behaviour a bug or intended? How can I change the volume for all applications with a systray mixer, when there is no Simultaneous Output device?
Thanks in advance for all answers!

That gconf is deprecated is intended, however paprefs should've been updated to do the configuration using the maintained gsettings method. So ideally all you'd have to do is to redo the configuration in paprefs which will recreate the sink using the more modern method. Note that this won't yet be properly reapplied if you haven't yet restarted pulse after the update, so either reboot or run
systemctl --user restart pulseaudiobefore applying the new settings in paprefs.

Hi V1del,
thanks for your answer, but I already restarted pulseaudio (and the system) multiple times and set the Simultaneous Output Setting in paprefs again - but the Simultaneous Output mixer bar never appeared.
Then I downgraded the packages as described, rebooted once more and the Simultaneous Output entry was there again.
I put the abovementioned packages in /etc/pacman.d/ignorelist and will wait until paprefs 1.0 is released - perhaps the crappy Lennartware will work then as expected.

Do you have any unmerged .pacnew files in /etc/pulse/?

I wouldn't be surprised if the xfce4 plugin isn't updated to use the gsettings backend yet, the qt equivalent hasn't either, and the "Advanced Output Configuation" options are disabled with a message that module-gconf is required.
However, I was able to recreate the simultaneous output device by following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … log_output
I imagine the workaround V1del posted achieves the same effect.
indianahorst, if these alternatives don't work for you, then perhaps you have found a bug. However, if you're just grumbling because you have to step out of your comfort zone, please read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … d_projects
