Is this a missing font or what is it?

when i run gtop i have these ugly blocks and blocklines and also this shadowed blockline at bottom; i also tested a new created user with default .Xressources and . Xdefaults; looks the same.

i did export LANG=en_US.utf8 and export TERM=xterm-256color and both are reported in printenv and started xterm or how am i supose to spawn it?
if i just run xterm afterwards it looks exactly the same as before

i also tested it with different user  and openbox-session; also looks the same.
