[SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

Hello,

Since version 4.15 of the kernel, I have been experiencing crashes every now and then (Maybe couple of times per day). The crash usually happen when I am using Chromium or Blender. I have an AMD HD 5450 with a Ryzen 7 1700 and Asuse PRIME X370-PRO. Using Deepin Desktop. I suspect it has something to do with the DRM, but I am not really experienced in linux and was hopping you could guide me through this.

The latest couple of lines of the log for the boot where a (Crash 1 where I was using Blender) happened is here:

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

Which xorg-server version was used when this first started ?

Are the crashes reproducible ?

please post lspci -k .

The calltrace in log1 suggests the crash might be memory related, please run memtest from installation iso .
(will take several hours)

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

I am not really sure which version this started on, but it was many months ago. The crashes seems to happen whenever the GPU is being used (In a relatively extensive manner, like playing videos on Chromium or using Blender), but I can't really reproduce them in a specific way.

The result of lspci -k:

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

I tested memory using memorytest for two passes and there were no errors. I will complete the 4 passes later. Does that imply the problem is not in memory?

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

Does it happen with linux-lts as well?

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

I never knew Arch had an LTS kernel. Is changing kernels too much of a trouble, may something go wrong? Asking because I have work to do and don't want further problems than there already is.

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

You can have multiple kernels installed which is what I was suggesting (space on /boot allowing) just install linux-lts then add a boot loader entry for linux-lts if your boot loader does not automatically create one.

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

Ok, I will give the LTS kernel a try. But before doing that, I am now trying to find a pattern of behaviour that always reproduce the problem. Maybe this will give some insight.

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

You can install them both and pick the one you want at boot time.

Edit:  Way too slow.

I tested the LTS Kernel and the panics still happens, almost nothing changed. I noticed that there was a lot of unpredicted segmentation faults, so I ran ryzen-test script and the results were rather interesting, all builds failed with a segfault, dmesg:

May this have something to do with the problem at hand?

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

Maybe something similar? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=238324
I'm not sure whether I'm having problem with motherboard on mine, but it does seem that ati/amdgpu isn't working on triple head setup at the moment.  Not sure whether it's the hardware or the drivers until I have time to get down and dirty.

Bumblee (nvidia) possibly having troubles too...but Intels seem to be working? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=238646

I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

I don't have a triple head setup nor do I use amdgpu since I have a pre-GCN card. I do, however, believe that the problem may be related to the DRM as seen in the first log. But things are confusing because of the Ryzen segmentation fault problem. I will be contacting the technical support to see if there is a real problem here.

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel panic on latest kernel

The problem seems have been a hardware one. Disabling Global C State Control in the BIOS fixes the problem, it has been a week with no crashes whatsoever.
