Suspend2 and Nvidia (X.org 7.0)

Hi

I have some problems with Suspend to softeare. I have set up Suspend2 in my 'menu.lst'

Suspend2 Core.
Suspend2 Compression Driver loading.
Suspend2 Encryption Driver loading.
Suspend2 Swap Writer loading.
Suspend2 FileWriter loading.
Suspend2 2.2: Swapwriter: Signature found.
Suspend2 2.2: Suspending enabled.

But whem I try to run hibernate, I get this (taking from /var/log/hibernate.log:

Starting suspend at ons mar 22 22:58:50 CET 2006
hibernate: [01] Executing CheckLastResume ...
hibernate: [01] Executing LockFileGet ...
hibernate: [01] Executing NewKernelFileCheck ...
hibernate: [10] Executing EnsureSwsusp2Capable ...
hibernate: [11] Executing XHacksSuspendHook1 ...
hibernate: [89] Executing SaveKernelModprobe ...
hibernate: [91] Executing ModulesUnloadBlacklist ...
Some modules failed to unload: nvidia
hibernate: Aborting suspend due to errors in ModulesUnloadBlacklist (use --force
 to override).

So I can't unload 'nvidia' beacause I run X. Is there a possibelity to use hibernate while X is running?
Also, when I do hibernate and try to start X, I get black screen and the only thing I can do, is to press the powerbutton.

Any ideas to fix these problems?

Re: Suspend2 and Nvidia (X.org 7.0)

This is because the "nvidia" module is blacklisted by suspend2. If you want to enable it, you need to comment out the line nvidia in /etc/hibernate/blacklisted-modules

Now, your system will be able to suspend. BUT, I've never been able to resume. Hope you will have better success... You can see the suspend2 wiki's nvidia section: http://wiki.suspend2.net/DistroAndHardwareSetup/Nvidia

*Find back post*

My computer suspends when I comment the nvidia module, but when it resumes I'm left with a monitor on stand by. I can't even restart X by ssh'ing into it.

Re: Suspend2 and Nvidia (X.org 7.0)

I use the default suspend which comes with the arch-stock-kernel. Suspend to disk or to Ram works without any problems. So: do not use swsusoend2; the new swsuspend of the vanilla kernel works quite well.

Did you try using the SwitchToTextMode and UseDummyXServer in your hibernation config files?

Yeah do that ^^

Also, try the vbetool setting, I think that is used for getting the monitor back on afterwards. There's a thread over on the laptop forum that might be useful.

Re: Suspend2 and Nvidia (X.org 7.0)

I found out the "problem": I was using the LockAsUser and LockX (can't remember the exact names) options. The computer resumed alright, but it was sitting there waiting for my password. When I enter my password, it's fully resumed again! smile
