I'm using a Dell laptop with a dock. Two external monitors are attached and worked fine until about three weeks ago. Now, when I xrandr --output DP-1-4 --mode 1920x1080;, I get "xrandr: Configure crtc 3 failed". xrandr outputs:

...analog modes...(I'm not sure why that second head is called HDMI; it's plugged into the Dock's DVI...maybe some emulation going on?)

Nobody asked there, but since it seems related to the X11 server version: do you use the modesetting driver?
