I recently bought the new Dell XPS 15 9570 (May 2018). I managed to get Arch running fine on it, but I'm experiencing issues with the discrete graphic card.
In particular, I can't use bumblebee to save power, because when the discrete card is OFF, some operations will cause a complete system freeze (the issue is very similar to the 9560, described here).
So far, I can reproduce the problem by performing the following operations:
- booting with the nouveau driver (this can be worked around using nouveau.modeset=0)
- starting the X server when the nvidia graphic card is turned off (via bumblebee or acpi_call)
- running lshw when the nvidia graphic card is off
I tried the workaround described in the wiki page (setting acpi_rev_override=1) but it doesn't seem to work.
Not sure what to include, so I'll start with the output of lshw and lspci, along with some APCI errors I'm getting in the kernel log.

This has been fixed after recent update (although I'm not sure whether is driver or kernel update).

As it might help others, could you describe your usual workflow using the discrete nvidia GPU only when necessary?

Main discussion is here
The summary is:
- AFAIK, the hang bug is solved, that means system won't hang anymore when running lspci or lshw, or when doing anything that may involve the device controller
- Linux PM management (that can be enabled manually or via powertop or TLP) for the PCI bus will suspend the card when not used, but only if nvidia kernel modules isn't loaded
- If you use the "modesetting" driver, X will try also to load the nvidia module (cuz modesetting is a generic driver that works with every graphic card that supports kernel modesetting)
- with a specific Xorg configuration (involving using the "intel" driver for the intel card and the "dummy" driver for the nvidia card mapped to an inactive screen) will prevent X from loading the nvidia driver, however some DE (like Gnome shell for example) will load that anyway
- You can prevent the module to be loaded by temporarily by removing the PCie bus of the Nvidia card from the kernel before starting X
- You can trigger the enumeration of the PCI devices to make Linux reinitialize the bus after X has started (but this will work only when AC adapter is plugged)
- You can always reboot to bring the card back if you really need it and can't restore it by rescan
Can't really tell whether the card is on or off after removing the bus, but it seems to be off at least on battery, cuz the power consumption (reported in powertop) decreases.
I suggest to continue the discussion in the other thread, to avoid fragmentation.
