[Discussed] Testing an installation inside Virtualbox

Hi

I want to know, that I downloaded the fresh ISO of Arch Linux, and but during Intallation, it went o use the repo, and downloaded the same kernel, which was already in it.

1. Can I override to use the packages from the iso file, rather then the mirror?
2. Can I use the packages available in the iso, to be used along with mirror updated packages?

By this way, downloading a fresh iso, and again waiting for downloads seems to waste time and resource!

Thankyou

There are no package files (*.pkg.tar.xz) on the iso, so there's nothing to install. The isos are simply bootable images built with the packages available at their time of creation, they quickly become outdated due to Archs rolling nature.

WorMzy answered #1.  Although you can use the archive / rollback-machine to get older packages.  However, for #2 if you were to attempt this you would run into all sorts of problems as it'd be a partial upgrade.

If it's *just* the kernel that you want to use an older version of, you might be ok as that is one package that you can sometimes get away with having out of sync with (almost) everything else.  But why would you want to run an intentionally outdated and unpatched kernel.

Do you just want an LTS kernel?

Hi
Right after downloading the iso, and again waiting for downloads seems to waste time and resource! Thats why I thought, I can install faster, at least. Then update later on.

Thankyou

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
