anki audio recording broken

Greetings,

Trying out anki 2.1.0rc1-1 on a new HP Z620 system, it seems audio recording is broken.
When I attempt to start audio recording in a field, I get a message window: "Please connect a microphone, and ensure other programs are not using the audio device"

Audio capturing runs fine with audio-recorder and other programs.

Should this be reported to anki or python-pyaudio?
