unmounted usb drives suddenly mounting

journalctrl output

dmlive output

I have a USB hub plugged into a USB 3.0 port, the hub currently has 3 usb drives plugged into it. Only 1 of them are mounted, the other 2 remain non-ejected (i don't know the proper term). While I was at my computer several file manager window  popped up (1 for each drive) and I see the drives were mounted...

This freaked me out a little bit and left me scratching my head as to what could be doing this.

It's only been happening for the past 2 days, but before that I only had 2 USB drives plugged into the hub, the 3rd USB I added recently.... however why would that cause the USB drives that I left unmounted to mount themselves? What could be causing this strange behavior?

Also, I'm using udiskie2 as well as thunar with mount removable drives when hot-plugged, inserted, browser removable media, and auto-open files on new drives and media selected.

Re: unmounted usb drives suddenly mounting

What time did this happen so we can correlate it to your log?   I wonder if you had an event that caused your USB hub to restart.

Sorry for the late response, here's a less cluttered journal log from today.

It occurs at 17:57 to 18:03

I think my hunch was correct.  You had a USB hub disconnect and you lost communication with everything attached to it at 17:57:34.  At the end of second 34, and at the beginning of second 35, the hub reestablished communication, then the downstream devices all re-enumerated.  Then, as the USB negotiation progresses, sdb, sdc, and sdc all reappear.  Presumably, this is the trigger that causes your file manager to 'mount' them.

Is this an internal hub, or is it an external hub?   Is it a powered hub, or is it an unpowered hub?
I saw no reason for the disconnect -- generally an event such as an overcurrent condition will generate a log entry.
How about cables?  If this is an external hub, I would look at the cable betwixt the computer and the hub.
