Visual Studio Code GNOME Wayland and Xorg default external terminals

I was using GNOME on Wayland just because it was the default and no issues obviously presented themselves.  Now I've switched over to GNOME on Xorg as DXVK via the Lutris game launcher won't work without being on X.  When I was using Visual Studio Code on Wayland launching a Python script in the external terminal started gnome-terminal.  Under X though it launches xterm.  The default option in Code is xterm.  If I change it to gnome-terminal then the terminal doesn't open and instead I get a notification at the top of the screen that it is ready and if I click on that it opens the terminal.  Under Wayland gnome-terminal just opens without the notification.

The gsettings terminal default is gnome-terminal under both Wayland and X.  This isn't a major issue, it's a minor issue really, but I was just wondering if there was an explanation for this behaviour and if under X I can get gnome-terminal to launch without the notification but instead immediately presenting itself.
