Plymouth doesn't correctly shows themes

I've installed Plymouth, configured it according to what the wiki says.

I have an Asus x556uq , with an NVidia GM108M (GeForce 940MX). (In case it matters, this card uses optimus technology)

I've enabled the following modules on the mkinitcpio.conf: nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm and nvidia-drm

I've also set the following kernel parameters for GRUB: quite splash and nvidia-drm.modeset=1

And at last also have used the plymouth hook on mkinitcpio.

I use the propietary NVIDIA drivers, and use SDDM as display manager (I've also enabled the sddm-plymouth service replacing the sdd.service one)

Having configured grub and regenerated the initramfs, it seems that plymouth tries to work during the system startup but it just shows a gray screen with three little boxes.
When configuring the plymouth theme with plymouth-set-default-theme -R solar (for example), initramfs is regenerated but same problem persists.

Also, when I turn off the system (or reboot it, for that matter), the correct plymouth theme shows correctly! It's just a problem during startup that plymouth seems not to be working correctly.

Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?

I use plymouth in all 3 of my Arch installs, and it did take a little fiddling and tweaking to get it to work. I could never seem to get the regular plymouth package to work correctly, however, when I switched to plymouth-legacy from the AUR, it worked great. I'd say give that a try.

partially solved this... At least plymouth is now working.

My current issues have more relation with the fact that my NVidia card uses optimus technology, so I tried to use the intel card for this. It works, but then when startup finishes, and the display manager triest to start, everything freezes, or so it seems (haven't tried yet to connect remotely to my machine to see if it's responsive), can't use the keyboard to switch ttys or anything and of course no graphical login screen appears...

Installed plymouth-legacy on some older laptop and ther it's working fine now (however I couldn't change the theme for the startup yet, this needs more research on my part, I already updated the /etc/plymouth/plymouth.conf file ...) But I consider this one a minor issue.
