Re: Some DRI help needed!

Try to add the following to your /etx/X11/XF86Config

Section "DRI"
        Mode 0666
EndSection

I have to say that it was a bit difficoult to read your /etx/X11/XF86Config.
Another think you can try is to create your /etx/X11/XF86Config with hwd
http://amlug.net/new-projects/hwd/hwd.html
It should create an /etx/X11/XF86Config-4 file based on your hardware, it is archlinux ready.
Try to use it and see if it works for you and eventualy add the missing part you need to it

Re: Some DRI help needed!

Do you have the mesa package installed?  If so, remove it.

Re: Some DRI help needed!

(WW) RADEON(0): Option "DRI" is not used
(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled

I noticed those lines right there.  They seem bad.  But in your XF86Config file you have Load 'dri', so I'm not sure what it's talking about.

Try adding Option 'DRI' to your Device section.

You also didn't answer my question.  pacman -Q mesa.  Is it installed?

To get my radeon 7500 working, I just used the included files from the xfree86 package and the radeon module already in my kernel.  That's all I needed.

Re: Some DRI help needed!

I don't have mesa!

here is what bothers me:

(WW) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available
-------------------------------------------
(WW) RADEON(0): Option "DRI" is not used
(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled

I here is my Device section in XF86Config

Section "Device"
    ### Available Driver options are:-
# sw_cursor is needed for some ati and radeon cards
Option "sw_cursor"
        #Option "hw_cursor"
        #Option "NoAccel"
        #Option "ShowCache"
        #Option "ShadowFB"
        #Option "UseFBDev"
        #Option "Rotate"
    Identifier "Card0"
# The following line is auto-generated by KNOPPIX mkxf86config
    Driver "radeon"
    Option "AGPMode" "1"
    VendorName "All"
    BoardName "All"
# BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

When i run glxinfo, my screen goes black & the Xserver restarts. i would like to check the log file, but i have no clue where it could be!

Also when you look at my lsmod, it says "radeon 0". does it mean that the kernel is not using this module?

Re: Some DRI help needed!

Are you using 2.6 or 2.4?  If you're using 2.4 then load the agpgart module.  If you're using 2.6 you have to load the agp module(s) for your motherboard (intel-agp, sis-agp, etc).  You have to load those before loading the radeon module.  Order does seem to matter here.

The ones that I load (I'm pretty sure I need all of them) are sis-agp, ati-agp, and amd-k7-agp, in that order.

Re: Some DRI help needed!

Hey Xentac,

thanks for the info. i had no clue that i have to load modules for the mainboard. the problem is that i don't know what is mainboard. sounds stupid, huh? well i have a notebook, Compaq Evo N160. from my lsmod i see that the intel-agp is being used, but not the radeon & i have no clue what other modules i might need.

any suggestions? i would appreciate it.

Re: Some DRI help needed!

Experiment

or find other people who are doing the same thing with the same laptop on the internet.  Try "Compaq Evo N160 2.6 agp" or "Compaq Evo N160 xfree86 dri" or just "Compaq Evo N160 dri".

Re: Some DRI help needed!

this is from my dmesg:

[drm] Initialized radeon 1.9.0 20020828 on minor 0
agpgart: Detected an Intel 830M Chipset.
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 203M
agpgart: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0xe0000000

something is Intel 830, buti wonder what it could be?  :? is there an option in X for hardware acceleration?
