xfce4 - where's my taskbar??

I installed xfce4 from extra.  I made sure to remove my .config directory which I had from an older version.

I logged in using xfce through gdm and I get my gnome desktop.  I see a bottom bar with some buttons and the workplace selector, but it didn't have an xfce menu buttom -- so no problem I added it.

But, now I have noticed I don't have a taskbar either.  I can alt-tab between running programs but no taskbar to know what is running.

I tried playing around with the settings in the Task Bar menu item but it just doesn't want to show itself.  What am I doing wrong?

Thx
Norm

log out, remove whatever contains xfce from your ~/.cache/sessions directory and log back in to see what happens
