[SOLVED]No internet connection after updating to linux 4.18

Hi all!

I updated my system on 09-01 and linux 4.18 was installed (core/linux 4.18.5.arch1-1 to be precise).

My daily usage is with linux-ck though, which was updated too. It doesn't matter much as this problem happens on both.

Well, after reboot, I lost my internet connection. I first thought was the cable, but nope. I have arch on dual boot with windows and in windows I can browse the net just fine.

Then I tried to follow the wiki and some tips to get network configuration to work and nothing.

My last try was to reinstall linux-ck (Linux 4.17.11-6-ck) and that just worked. However, I thought that reporting it would be nice as didn't see any thread about it yet.

So below is some outputs from commands that I've tried:

ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp1s8: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 00:e0:4c:69:24:ea brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: enp0s7: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether bc:5f:f4:a2:fb:f1 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

*** this one I ran after disabling all dhcpcd and re-enabling dhcpcd and reboot. It changed nothing (still no connection), it just that ip route didn't gave me any output

the output of the journalctl I pasted on gist, as it is too big for here.

sudo journalctl -xe

If any other command should be ran or any other info is needed, I'm glad to try it here.

PS: I forgot to save the output of lspci, but it is the same from now (that I'm linux-ck 4.17)

lspci -k | grep Ethernet
00:07.0 Bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP61 Ethernet (rev a2)
01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8169 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 10)
Subsystem: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8169/8110 Family PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC

edit reason: solved

EDIT:

Linux 4.18-8 solved the issue.

This is probably outdated but maybe try this? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=138636

Re: [SOLVED]No internet connection after updating to linux 4.18

What is the full dmesg output from a 4.17 boot and a 4.18 boot?

I saw this, but I didn't want to try the static IP workaround. But I can check if it works later

full dmesg 4.17
full dmesg 4.18

Re: [SOLVED]No internet connection after updating to linux 4.18

You can avoid IPv6 w/o resorting to a static adress.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IPv6#Disable_IPv6
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IPv6#dhcpcd_2

You may also try dhclient  instead of dhcpcd, but the apparent kernel version dependency make a protocol handling issue unlikely.

I would suggest bisecting either just drivers/net/ethernet/realtek between 4.17 and 4.18 or the entire tree between 4.17 and 4.18.

It didn't change much, just log will not contain message about IPv6 xD

Yep, you're right. And I just saw that there is a ton more of commits to it. I'll wait one more week or so (lots of work here until them) and see if after next update things change. If it doesn't, I'll try your suggestion and report here.

EDIT:
for what I saw, Torvalds tree is at least 5 commits ahead from Arch tree regarding r8169. Maybe there is something here which will help me out

@DeadMetaler while vinnom will be busy for the next week could you try 4.19-rc3 / 4.19-rc2 or bisecting 4.17-4.18?

Too lazy for compiling kernel and I just found and installed Manjaro's kernel 4.19rc2.
It's not booting to my GNOME but I checked from TTY console and pacman updates databases with connected internet.

I can confirm that
There was no need to bisect or try rc packages. I'll mark topic as solved
Thanks for the help
