[SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

Hello,

Today I run `pacman -Syu`. Everything went fine, but after I turned off and on PC I realized icons on the desktop are grey. See this sccreenshot https://prnt.sc/ks6dzp. What is more interesting, trash icon was also grey, but somehow (idk how) it became red while dragging area for the screenshot.
Here is a pacman log for packages I updated. I don't know if any of them is the source of the problem and which I should try to roll back.
Another screenshot, part of file manager view, maybe it will be helpful.

Have you tried changing to another theme? From whatever one you are currently using?

It worked! No idea why Numix Light got bugged, but I can use another one in the meantime.

Presumably you are using an AUR package. Updating those is not pacman's responsibility, it is yours.

Re: [SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

Similar issue. I have narrowed it down to the glib2 package. Even by swapping out numix-light (which fixes the desktop), my custom action icons in thunar are broken. hmm I've tried it with a large variety of icon packs.

EDIT: Apparently, that bug is specific to thunar and needs to be fixed.

Re: [SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

Sorry to dig it out but since glib2 2.58.1 landed in stable recently I expected this bug to be fixed, but it looks like it is not. Can anybody else confirm this? If so, does anybody know if the issue is still being worked on in glib2 or if it is now up to Xfce (xfdesktop?) to fix something? I'm not sure how to interpret the comments in the glib2 bug report[1]...

Re: [SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

I am also affected by this. It seems to be indeed glib2 related. This thread is marked as solved, but I think the person just switched to a different icon theme which works for now. I don't know if I should create a new thread for this.

Here's a link to a relevant bug-report[0]. From what I've understood, there was a change in the way icons are chosen. Symbolic icons get prioritized now when they exist in the current theme instead of inheriting regular icons from another theme.
I am experiencing this with the Nemo file manager and the Faenza icon theme (using Faenza-Dark specifically).

Thanks for doing more research, let's see if there will be a reply to your comment at the bug report!

Re: [SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

Looks like there will be no reply, any thoughts? Maybe we should report a bug on the Arch bug tracker such that somebody more experienced can have a look at it and figure out where the cause of the problem lies?

Re: [SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

Arch packages upstream code. Why would opening an Arch bug force a glib change? From the thread linked above, no one is going to touch this until the spec is changed.

Re: [SOLVED] Grey icons on desktop (XFCE) afte an update

Arch packages upstream code.

Many bugs reported to the Arch tracker are actually upstream bugs. Sometimes it is not completely clear where exactly to report a bug upstream because it is a problem which arises due to several packages interacting, then some more experienced people can have a look and give hints on how to pin it down. In my opinion this is the case here, at least I couldn't figure out what should be done to get this bug fixed from the discussion in the bug reports linked above (since they are rather technical and I'm just a user not able and willing to get that deep into the matter).
