lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

In the past few days lxterminal lost its ability to have many tabs and being able to close some of them down.  Any attempt to close one tab closes the whole thing down.  Having several lxterminal windows does not affect each other.
This is the same for artix, obarun, and arch (different installations) with openbox and pretty minimalistic.  It didn't happen a week ago, it started in the past few days and I can't pinpoint what pkg update caused this behavior.
Debian based (antix), void, have not been affected, it is only ARCH.

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

1. Open it in a terminal and observe the error messages.

2. Remove the configuration files and/or try a fresh user. You haven't mentioned shared config files, maybe something pollutes your configs.

3. Check the bugtracker of the program in question for known bugs.

4. Check the xorg log file for anything related.

5. Check the Arch bug tracker for related bugs.

This is the minimal checklist of things to do and mention in threads like this.

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

No error messages on different terminal starting lxterminal, I open a 2nd tab, close the tab and the whole terminal is terminated.
I am talking about 7 different installations (arch based, and arch), different users, all do the same thing.
In all the years I have used lxterminal this has never ever happened before, it started about 3-4 days ago.
I haven't seen any related bugs, last lxterminal update was in March.
Also tried with root which I never use, no previous configuration, same thing.
The only thing I have a hunch about is that the 3 vte related dependencies have mixed gtk2 gtk3 code in them and somewhere a conflict results.

The further I play with it the more problematic it seemed.  I use the menu to open more tabs, I close the 4th tab and 2 tabs close.  I open a new one, close tab with menu, and closes just that one tab.  Close the another tab with the x on the tab two independent  teminals shut down.

I register with Arch bug tracker it will not let me in 'yet".

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

I used AUR lxterminal-gtk2 (same version as in community) and it is not having the same problem.  So is it the community built that is problematic?  But this is the same it has been for past 5-6 months without a problem except for the past 2-3 days.  ???

I bet it is vte3 that is causing the problem as this is strictly a GTK2 version.
So I went 2 versions back to vte3-0.52.2-1 and the problem goes away.  So it is all in vte3-0.54**

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

Sorry for asking all those questions. It's hard to know, whether a user didn't do all this or simply found it so trivial, that mentioning it eludes you.

Have you tried rebuilding the package against the new VTE? Maybe a rebuild is required and hasn't happened in community. Checked the history of the terminal package?

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

Terminal hasn't changed recently.  It is vte3 that has changed.  Since in void the problem doesn't exist I checked and vte3 is not even required for lxterminal.  So I am almost certain it is it.

You are saying if I build lxterminal from source against vte3 it will all be OK?
You may be right but I can just wait for Arch to make the correction.  If vte3 is not necessary why is arch adding this complexity?  Is this wayland related, I wonder?

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

You've got the testing repository active.

https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sor … =&flagged=

x86_64	Extra	vte3	0.52.2-1	Virtual Terminal Emulator widget for use with GTK3	2018-05-21
x86_64	Testing	vte3	0.54.0+9+gdace9988-1	Virtual Terminal Emulator widget for use with GTK3	2018-09-09

VTE3 hasn't changed since may.

testing, always, it helps development and this is as far as I can contribute, I am not a coder.

0.52 hasn't changed but 0.54 came out twice Sep5th and Sep9th, I think, and the problem materialized.  Reverting to 0.52 cures the problem.  So I am 99% certain vte3 is causing it, as I use lxterminal tabs daily.

Re: lxterminal tabs can not close down independently

That's a critical detail to omit :-D

Try rebuilding the lxterminal package, you know, get the PKGBUILD and so on.
