K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

I am trying to burn a couple of Audio CDs, and when I start the burning process, it says "Determining maximum write speed" for about 5 seconds, and then in the log window, it says:

IO Error
Removing temporary files

When I click Show Debugging Output, the following information comes up:

System
-----------------------
K3b Version: 0.12.16

KDE Version: 3.5.3
QT Version: 3.3.6
Kernel: 2.6.17-ARCH
Devices
-----------------------
QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082S LX06 (/dev/hdc, ) at /mnt/cd [CD-R; CD-RW; CD-ROM; DVD-ROM; DVD-R; DVD-RW; DVD+R; DVD+RW; DVD+R DL] [DVD-ROM; DVD-R Sequential; DVD-RW Restricted Overwrite; DVD-RW Sequential; DVD+RW; DVD+R; DVD+R Double Layer; CD-ROM; CD-R; CD-RW] [SAO; TAO; RAW; SAO/R96R; RAW/R16; RAW/R96R; Restricted Overwrite]

How can I fix this?

This might come across as rude, which I dont want it to be, but did you run k3bsetup? In there you can determine the max speed of your optical drive.

If you have - just ignore this post.

Yep, run "kdesu kcmshell k3bsetup2" and set your permissions right.
Also "pacman -Sy hdparm" and then checkout your DMA status for the DVD drive:
hdparm -d /dev/hdc
You should get something like "using_dma    =  1 (on)"

Re: K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

I ran 'hdparm -d /dev/hdc' and got:

/dev/hdc:
 using_dma    =  1 (on)

The permissions are right in K3bSetup, so I'm not sure what's going on with it.

Re: K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

Don't know if it will help but I had a similar problem that ended up being a permission problem. Something must have changed after a previous upgrade because it all worked ok before. I had to re-add myself back to optical group. Try burning as root and see if that works

Re: K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

When I burned as root, it worked no problem.  However, my user is already a member of the optical group - I was never removed.  Was your user removed from that group?  If not, what did you do specifically to get K3b to recognize the permissions again?

Re: K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

I was still in that group but it wouldn't work. I ended up removing myself from the group, deleting k3b then reinstall then add myself back to the group, then reboot. Don't have a clue why but everything worked flawlessly after that.

Re: K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

I did that, and I'm still getting the same error.  Was I supposed to delete a config directory in my home folder for K3b also?  I looked for a .k3b directory and couldn't find one.

Re: K3b Error when trying to burn a CD

You use the group burning through K3b?  I didn't think that group existed in the system.  I'll try it.
