[Solved] Audacious and other applications lagging heavily after update

About two or three weeks ago (Some time in September) I performed an update to my system. Since then audacious has been doing some very laggy behavior. When I start it up nothing happens for about 30 seconds and then it starts up normally. Similarly it while playing songs the interface will randomly cut out, the music keeps going but the window is completely unresponsive: the window doesn't draw and all clicks on the window are ignored. But then it returns to normal operation after 30-60 seconds.

I have noticed a few other programs doing similar behavior (becoming unresponsive for about 30-60 seconds) slack, thunderbird, oprea. But most other programs seem to be unaffected. I tried looking for recent problems with audacious on arch but couldn't find anything.

I am running XFCE with nvidia proprietary drivers.

Re: [Solved] Audacious and other applications lagging heavily after update

Looks okay,  terminal output from an affected application? And

journalctl -b

from an affected session after reproducing the issue? Some power saving? Is it only on attempted sound output creations?

Re: [Solved] Audacious and other applications lagging heavily after update

I don't think sound is the issue because to my knowledge Thunderbird doesn't use sound. journalctl -b is filled with this message:

Oct 01 07:44:29 black plasma_waitforname[1788]: org.kde.knotifications: WaitForName: Service was not registered within timeout
Oct 01 07:44:29 black dbus-daemon[573]: [session uid=1000 pid=573] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.Notifications' failed: Process org.freedesktop.Notifications exited>
Oct 01 07:46:03 black dbus-daemon[573]: [session uid=1000 pid=573] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.Notifications' requested by ':1.32' (uid=1000 pid=717 comm="a>
Oct 01 07:47:03 black plasma_waitforname[1799]: org.kde.knotifications: WaitForName: Service was not registered within timeout
Oct 01 07:47:03 black dbus-daemon[573]: [session uid=1000 pid=573] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.Notifications' failed: Process org.freedesktop.Notifications exited>
Oct 01 07:50:40 black dbus-daemon[573]: [session uid=1000 pid=573] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.Notifications' requested by ':1.32' (uid=1000 pid=717 comm="a>
Oct 01 07:51:41 black plasma_waitforname[1828]: org.kde.knotifications: WaitForName: Service was not registered within timeout

But it looks like libnotify is the culprit, something that audacious, thunderbird and opera all have in common. I turned off notification on audacious and it works fine. I keep forgetting to check journalctl for these kinds of issues. Thanks a bunch, V1del!
