sluggish graphics with intel 620 and dual 4k monitors

I bought a new thinkpad. I'm trying to 2 4k monitors with it, but things are sluggish. I'm using usb-c cables for both of them. my Xorg config has:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection

I'm also running: compton --backend xrender --vsync opengl

My window manager is awesome.

Re: sluggish graphics with intel 620 and dual 4k monitors

I assume this is not a problem if you clone the 2 4k outputs (ie. have them cover the same area) and also pivot the HD output (ie. ensure to stay in a 4096x4096 root)?
What if you drop compton (in either layout)?

It improves when I clone. I don't think I understand what you mean by pivot. Do you mean rotate eDP1 output?

Re: sluggish graphics with intel 620 and dual 4k monitors

Yup. (You're currently running it in landscape, are you not?)
Also ensure to check on compton - the IGP may have serious issues w/ some texture types growing > 2^12 and enter some software mode.

(For this, also best log "glxinfo -l" (that's a lot of text you want to redirect into a file or a pastebin service)

Re: sluggish graphics with intel 620 and dual 4k monitors

I have some other issues with this laptop so I decided to return it for a different model. Its probably gonna be a few weeks until I get the new one. I'll have to wait and see if the issue is still there when I get the new one.
