I am on a ThinkPad T460s with intel (skylake) cpu and intel (520) graphics. System will run all day and switch between the DP output (through dock, 4K screen) and the internal monitor a few times. At the end of the day however, when I try to switch to internal screen(xrandr), I will get a completely frozen system that won't respond to anything other than a hard reset. When I check out the journal from previous boot, I get this:
[drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun
[drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe B FIFO underrun
Consistent through linux and linux-zen. Only happens after a full day's work. Will try linux-lts tomorrow.
I see that this issue was reported circa 2016 but somehow disappeared over time. This machine was rock solid until a few months back when a kernel upgrade unleashed gpu hell. Can't get uptime over 2 days since then. Any input would be appreciated.
