If both of them would ignore personal resentments, and just talk about code and technique ...
This story never ends.

sounds like the kernel maintainers are almost as bad as reiser is...

At this rate reiser4 will be in the kernel at 2.6.2x.
Not that it matters to me. Im stiking with ext3

Quite honestly I think that a reiser5 would have more chance to get in the kernel than reiser4 ever will.

I think reiser 4 will be merged into the kernel eventually. If any thing, the resistance met so far has only made the FS even more robust, which should be a good thing. Hans does seem to have a chip on his shoulder. Perhaps he's been too submerged with the politics and conspiracies for too long.
To be honest, I don't follow this stuff much, but one thing strikes me. How are kernel hackers supposed to do any work when there is so much traffic on that mailing list to keep on top of?!?

Do they work or do they flame ...
For my taste, it looks like some of them do the work, and most of them just act as they would do, while they debate on mailing lists and feel eleet.
Notice: I don't know much of kernel developers internas. It's just the way I see them from an external point of view.

Greg KH explains nicely here how the LKML traffic is dealt with.

I'm guessing Reiser4 will be merged when it stops screwing up md5sums.

 Ahhhh - is that way pacman-optimize don't worky?

ext4 will come to the rescue way before Reiser4 will ever be included, judging from the responses I've seen. You win some you lose some. But the unprofessional attitude of the people involved need to change (that's aimed at both sides).

Yep.

The kernel devs do sometimes come across as a bit rude... I don't find it surprising though. Remember, even now Reiser4 is not stable, and if your FS does things like the aforementioned checksum problem then it's probably a bit unrealistic to expect it to be shoved into the mainline kernel. The Linux crew could probably be a bit more polite but Reiser is asking for something stupid.

I'd really like to see Reiser4 in the mainline kernel. I'd really like to try it out again, but the fact that it's not in the vanilla kernel makes my life difficult in that area. Hans even said he does not care if the driver has a big "EXPERIMENTAL: DO NOT USE!" label next to it, just as long as the driver is there, more people might start to try it out and if it is any good, it will pick up popularity.
The kernel devs say they are worried about Hans leaving Reiser4 unmaintained, as they feel he did with Reiser3. In fact, Hans says they fix his bugs in Reiser3 still when they come along, but some of the bugs are due to new features that were added by others even though he said that they shouldn't be - because it will affect the stability! If I told someone not to do something because it would cause problems, then that person did it anyway and expected me to clear up the problems they made, then I would be very angry with them. I think HR has shown quite a lot of restraint, as this particular issue must piss him off a lot.

hmm I think reiserfs is being delayed.

whoa, revive old thread, with irrelevant url that has a provocative title!
Read through it, Hans still hasnt even been charged.
That won't delay reiser4 anyway, while it may have been initially, it's certainly not a one man project now.
James
mods: might be a good idea to split this new revival from the original, and keep an eye on it -- People tend to give Hans a hard time.

I liked post by Theodore Tso.
IMHO Hans should stop complaining and be more cooperative. It was already mentioned that there were plans to megre Reiser4 into 2.6.19, but decission was made to not do this because of some technical problems, and most probably it will be in 2.6.20 (marked as EXPERIMENTAL, of course). We'll see.

How does an ugly jerk like that end up with a pretty wife like that? If he did kill her........man.......some people are not responsible enough to live....poor kids.
Don't take that as I'm wanting the death penalty. I think the death penalty is horrible. How does killing somebody justify somebody's killing somebody else? It's a never-ending loop. "An eye-for-and-eye and a tooth-for-a-tooth leaves the world blind and toothless."
Back on topic, the employees of Namesys say that they will continue Hans's work if he is charged. They were already prepared for this, because they said that they thought this would happen.
