I use Ranger in Termite and image previews (using w3m) display nicely, but when I move on to a different files, they stay there and only dissapear when something is drawn/written on them, so after browsing through my image directory it looks like this:
You can still see parts of previously displayed images. This also happens in xfce4-terminal, but in xterm everything's fine.

I know what you're talking about, i had the same experience and i couldn't fix it (eventually i moved to URxvt terminal which handles ranger images perfectly). I also heard other people having the same problem. Take a look at this , specially the one before the last has some good points.
There is no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact, it's all dark.

Thanks, but they seem to deal with the issue of image previews not displaying at all

Are you setting TERM somewhere? What is the output of `echo $TERM`?

Kinda forgot about it but if anyone's interested, I've changed rendering engine from w3m to überzug and now everything works great. I'm gonna mark the thread as solved
