[SOLVED] After update, no sound output from headphone jack

Hi,

I just updated my system and after a reboot, sound output only works from my laptop's built-in speakers. When I connect my headphones via audio jack, they are recognized by my system (Gnome changes the audio icon and in alsamixer, the headphone channel gets unmuted). However, I am not able to play any sound.

As there was a kernel update, I switched to the LTS version. It did not help.

I just started up my laptop the next day, and audio output through audio jack started working again. Although I did not change anything. Maybe doing a full restart (i.e. powering off the laptop and turning it on again) made the difference?

Anyways, the problem is apparently solved.

Do you have a Windows dual boot? Make sure that fast boot is disabled, and even  if that is already disabled, there are some known quirks with having booted into Windows and certain soundcard behaviours on linux.
