Open file almost always give recent document

This is with Gedit, but also other programs such as Inkscape and Gimp: very often when I open a new document the "Open..." dialog, it is set to "recent documents", even if I have another document open. I would expect to open a document on the same directory as the one which is already opened, as it used to work like that. Now this becomes rather frustrating when I'm using many documents from the same directory or in a close directory (say the parent directory etc.) because then I have to go through all the paths where my documents are again and again.

Is there a way to change this behavior?

Re: Open file almost always give recent document

For GTK+ applications please have a look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GT … p-Location. You could also create bookmarks for your working directories in nautilus. Then it's easy to switch to that locations in the side bar of the file chooser dialog.

Indeed that gsetting command does the trick. Thanks! I couldn't find the right keywords to search.
