I recently updated to 4.18.12-arch1-1 kernel. Since the update my second monitor will not use it's normal resolution. It's connected via HDMI. It usually displays at 1920x1080, but now it only displays at 1280x1024 max...
My system is a lenovo ideapad 320 AMD A12 with the radeon r7 graphics. So far I've tried setting nomodeset in grub, removing and reinstalling amdgpu driver, and something I seen in a forum about adding xrandr newmode. I really hope someone can help point me in the right direction on this.

Have you tried to roll back kernel?
Have you tried to set resolution via xrandr? What is the output?
Offline
Yes I have tried to roll back kernel. Issue does not happen with 4.18.7 . I have attempted to set resolution with xrandr. No errors or output, screen just goes blank.....
Offline
What exactly did you try about "something I seen in a forum about adding xrandr newmod"?
It seems to be a reduced blanking modeline, but did you also try to select it?

Yes, I added the 1920x1080R modeline. And tried it also. No luck. But after reading your post I added
Modeline "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
It worked. My second screen is now displaying 1920x1080. I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xr … esolutions
and made a 10-monitor.conf
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "HDMI-A-0"
Modeline "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080_60.00"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Monitor "eDP"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Modes "1366x768 60.00"
EndSubSection
EndSection
now xrandr looks like

So, now it has the correct resolution and keeps it across reboots. Any Ideas why it's not able to use the original 1920x1080 settings? And how would I go about making 1920x1080_60.00 the default? I searched the topic but haven't found much in regards to changing xrandr defaults. Should I just put something in an .xinitrc like..
xrandr --output DisplayPort-0 --off --output eDP --mode 1366x768 --pos 1366x0 --rotate normal --output HDMI-A-0 --mode 1920x1080_60.00 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal

Check the xorg log resp. "xrandr -q --verbose" for the original FullHD modelines.
It's kinda suspicious that there're two 60Hz modes…

I don't have much experience with xrandr, I've had arch on two systems and this monitor has always worked out of the box. Not too sure about the output but is there supposed to be so many entries for the 1920x1080 resolution? I'm counting 4 entries @60Hz
