For some programs, tooltips now flicker, showing for a split second before disappearing, or hide behind whatever window spawned them: liferea, in tint2's systray: nm-applet, volwheel, cbatticon, redshift-gtk.
However, some programs show tooltips properly still: palemoon, orage systray icon, tint2's taskbar, medit, chromium.
Archlinux x64 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T520 (Optimus w/ nvidia blob, but for normal desktop use as here, the intel X11 driver). Usually running: openbox, tint2, conky, urxvt, lightdm, palemoon. No compositor (but with compton, the same thing happens).
This didn't used to happen, but I started to notice it sometime in September, probably after I ran pacman -Syu. I've updated since then as well. So what can I do about it?

Try removing xf86-video-intel and use the modesetting (built into Xorg, remove any intel specific xorg config) driver instead.

I didn't have any xorg.conf.d/foo files with video config in them. After removing xf86-video-intel and restarting Xorg, this issue hasn't changed.

Any other thoughts on this? (bump)

Don't do that: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … bumping.22
As you are specifically talking about tray icons, you might be running into the general glib/gtk changes with regards to this, there are already a few threads open on the issue e.g.

Thanks. The issue seems to have already been reported to gnome, but I didn't think to look there.
