ssh: connect: Connection refused unless physically logged in [Solved]

I installed Arch on a new SSD on my dekstop PC. The network is up and sshd is enabled and it boots to the login prompt on my TTY. For unknown reasons, I can not connect via ssh from my other PC unless I physically log in to the TTY on the new base Arch install. Why?

MS1@laptop $ ssh disco
ssh: connect to host disco port 22: Connection refused

----- wait 5 min ------

MS1@laptop $ ssh disco
ssh: connect to host disco port 22: Connection refused

----- now I log in to the machine on the TTY --------

MS1@laptop $ ssh disco

MS1@disco $

Install and enable haveged on the desktop (SSH server).

Jasonwryan's idea helps if the problem is that you have too less entropy because too less things happened on the computer before (i.e. during boot).

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ha … lternative

EDIT: shouldn't there be some errors in `journalctl -u sshd` relating to low entropy if that is true?

Sorry, wasn't paying attention. My apologies for extraneous content. Have you tried using a -J to login using a different username?

If that does not work, the Wiki page for SSH section 3.1 gives you a good place to start looking when trying to edit the config files. I had to explicitly allow my user access to the ssh daemon to be able to login even after enabling the sshd.service systemd files.

...how old is your PC?  Most motherboards made in the past decade or so should have an onboard TPM.

Re: ssh: connect: Connection refused unless physically logged in [Solved]

Running haveged fixes the problem but why did it come up all of a sudden? This is a Xeon processor.

dmesg | grep -i tpm

I will make a new thread.
