Hi,
I have some 4K footage in H.265 recorded at 60fps, and when I try to play it back on VLC the footage stutters and has artifacts. The system is quite new, with a 4K monitor, so I don't believe the lag is because of any hardware bottleneck.
Example of artifacts: https://imgur.com/a/rP6dtMD

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (rev 07)I've heard about va-api, but I'm not sure how to make sure it's being used, or even if that's the right direction to go. I've tried setting VA-API under "Hardware accelerated decoding" in VLC's preferences and restarting the program, but the issue persists.

If I run
mpv --hwdev=vaapi file.mp4the file plays properly.

It appears the issue is framerate related, not necessarily video format. When playing back at 30fps in VLC, the footage displays properly. But 60fps still works in mpv.. I'm holding out hope there's still a way to properly configure VLC.
