[SOLVED]No interface when launching cmus`

I've look through the cmus tutorial and according to it when I launch cmus through the terminal it should give me an artist/song ncurses view but after launching it I see nothing it just stays at the default command line until I close it with ctrl+C.  I'm using urxvt but it doesn't work in the CLI either.

sorry I made a beginner mistake and didn't read the wiki carefully enough saying I had to set the output to alsa
