light-locker disables screen, does not show greeter

When I lock my system with "light-locker-command -l"

  • for a short time a cursor is shown on one screen

  • the screens go black / no signal

  • keyboard / mouse input does nothing

  • only changing to VT7 (ctrl+alt+F7) does anything

  • "this session is locked .. redirect in a few seconds"

  • greeter is shown

  • password entry

  • "this session is locked .. redirect in a few seconds" for another second

  • unlocked desktop

I expect the following

  • greeter is shown

  • after some timeout screens might be disabled as per power management setting

  • keyboard/mouse input will reactivate greeter

As I understand, the locker changes to VT8. I don't understand why it doesn't display the greeter there.

light-locker, lightdm, lightdm-gtk-greeter, and accountsservice are installed. I installed the latter after getting an error mentioned in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=186550
I observe the very same behavior with "gnome-screensaver-command".
Eventually I wish to use xflock4.
This is a fresh installation of Archlinux, in particular I changed nothing in /etc/lightdm yet. I use the lightdm-gkt-greeter for login without other issues.

This is on a ThinkPad T480s with integrated Intel graphics

There is an old locked post without a solution.

Re: light-locker disables screen, does not show greeter

I'm having this issue also on a Thinkpad T520.  Intel HD3000 graphics.

It also appears that light-locker is doing something to my keyboard.  When I get back to my session, the keyboard doesn't immediately work everywhere.  I need to type something in a terminal to get it to work again.

As a temporary (possibly permanent) fix, I'm using xfce4-screensaver which is available in the AUR.  This has simple screenlocking like xscreensaver and is not as ugly.  You'll just need to edit /usr/bin/xflock to point to the xfce4-screensaver-command to enable locking with xflock4.

Re: light-locker disables screen, does not show greeter

I am also having this issue, with a fresh Arch install on a Dell Latitude 7390 with Intel integrated graphics. When locking the screen manually, or when it is locked by the screensaver, the screen will not turn back on unless I switch tty away from and then back to tty8.

Here's my LightDM log after a manual lock and unlock (with switching tty to turn the screen back on):

This Reddit post has a "hacky workaround", but has anyone managed to fix it properly?
